HIV Testing

Learn your status and get support

The only way to know if you have HIV is to get tested.

AVI offers HIV and other STI testing clinics on Vancouver Island:

  • In Victoria, every Thursday from 5:30-7:30 at the Cool Aid Health Centre (1st floor, 713 Johnson St). AVI’s Prism Wellness staff are there to provide support and education.  Contact Prism Wellness at prismwellness@avi.org to learn more.
  • Through our Nanaimo clinic (250-754-9111).

Generally, any doctor’s office, clinic or hospital in Canada should be able to test you for HIV. Some clinics may take your blood right there, while others may send you to a blood lab site where there are lots of people getting all sorts of blood tests for different things.

In British Columbia, the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) has also implemented an innovative pilot program that lets patients sign up online to get tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections

The BCCDC also has a page on their website where you can find locations near you that offer in-person STI testing
