VICTORIA
 

  • Nov 28th to Dec 6th: “We Are Here” Storyboard Art Installation
    Now in its fifth year, the “We Are Here” anti-stigma project involves local people living with HIV sharing their personal stories with their fellow Victorians, reminding us all that HIV doesn’t just happen elsewhere – it happens right here, too. This project features “Storyboards”, an art installation, where a collection of diverse images and real-life stories and experiences of local HIV+ folks will be on display in Greater Victoria Public Library during AIDS Awareness Week and Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week (Nov. 28th-Dec. 10th).
     
  • Dec 1st: World AIDS Day
    The Getting Higher Choir will be performing a special set in the courtyard of the downtown library at 4pm. At 4:30pm there will be a group march to the Legislature where a red ribbon candle display will be lit up on the front steps. A moment’s silence will be observed and people will have the opportunity to speak about their loved ones if they want to. More information at https://www.facebook.com/events/740191352787109/
     
  • Dec 2nd: Launch of Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week
    AIDS Vancouver Island and the Greater Victoria Public Library are co-hosting a special event to acknowledge Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week. The event will take place at the downtown library in the Community Room. At 3pm there will be a showing of Kw’am kw’um S’uli Tst: Culture as Intervention, a project in which Native elders talk about their experiences with HIV. This presentation will be repeated throughout the afternoon. In addition, there will be a craft table, info table and snacks served. At 4 pm there will several short talks by guest speakers followed by a Unity Drummers performance at 5pm. More information at https://www.facebook.com/events/1300637219956401/
     
  • Dec 3rd: Rock Your Awareness
    AIDS Vancouver Island and Logan's Pub are excited to invite you to the 9th annual Rock Your Awareness fundraiser. We do this every year to raise awareness for World AIDS Day (Dec 1st) and Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week (Dec 1-5). This year we are having a dance party with The Phat Funks! There will be a raffle that inlcudes art, jewellery, and gift certficates from sex shops and tattoo and piercing artists! Screw Crew will be there handing out free goodies like condoms, lube and sweet treats. All money raised goes to AVI special projects.   • Nov 22nd: AIDS Awareness Week Wellness Fair
    The AIDS Vancouver Island Health Centre will be hosting an Wellness Fair from 9:30am-2:00pm. Offerings include free snacks, hair cuts (10-2), make-overs (11-1:30) and HIV, Hepatitis & STI testing (all day). Event will take place at 102- 55 Victoria Road.   • Nov 24th to Dec 2nd: “We Are Here” Storyboard Art Installation

  • Nov 29th: AIDS Awareness Week Info Booth at Vancouver Island University
    AIDS Vancouver Island will have an info table set up in the Upper Cafeteria at Vancouver Island University. There will print materials related to HIV, STIs, Hepatitis, Harm Reduction and safer sex supplies available (male/female condoms, dental dams, lube).
     
  • Dec 1st: World AIDS Day
    The AVI Health Centre will be participating in the Snuneymuxw First Nations AIDS Walk & Health Fair for World AIDS Day. Call Claire Dineen at 250-753-2437 for more information.

 

COURTENAY/COMOX

  • Nov 24th to Dec 7th: “We Are Here” Storyboard Art Installation

This project features “Storyboards”, an art installation, where a collection of diverse images and real-life stories and experiences of local HIV+ folks will be on display at the Vancouver Island Regional Library (300 6th Street, Courtenay) during AIDS Awareness Week and Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week (Nov. 24th-Dec. 7th).
     
  • Dec 1st: World AIDS Day

    9:30am - 11:00am: Pancake Breakfast
    Join us for a pancake breakfast at the AIDS Vancouver Island Courtenay office (355 6th Street).

    1:00pm - 3:00pm: Testing, Health & Wellness Event
    This event will feature flu immunizations, liver health information, HCV & STI testing, rapid HIV testing, Harm Reduction Information and Support Services. Refreshments will be provided. This event takes place at the AVI Courtenay office (355 6th Street).

 

CAMPBELL RIVER

  • Nov 24th to Dec 7th: “We Are Here” Storyboard Art Installation
    The “We Are Here” anti-stigma project involves local people living with HIV sharing their personal stories with their fellow community, reminding us all that HIV doesn’t just happen elsewhere – it happens right here, too.  This project features “Storyboards”, an art installation, where a collection of diverse images and real-life stories and experiences of local HIV+ folks will be on display at the Vancouver Island Regional Library (1240 Shoppers Row) during AIDS Awareness Week and Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week (Nov. 24th-Dec. 7th).
  • Nov 30th: Launch of Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week
    AIDS Vancouver Island Campbell River will be participating in the Aboriginal AIDS week Health Fair. Key speaker will be Kecia Larkin. This event is open to the public.
  • Dec 1st: World AIDS Day

    9:30am - 11:00am: Pancake Breakfast
    Join us for a pancake breakfast at the AIDS Vancouver Island Campbell River office (1371c Cedar Street).

    12:00pm - 3:00pm: Rose Harbour for Women Health Fair
    AIDS Vancouver Island will be at the Rose Harbour Health Fair offering education, conversation and supplies related to safer sex and AIDS Awareness Week.
