5th Annual Campbell River Walk Away from Homophobia in on May 17

The rainbow flag will be flying high in Campbell River on Monday May 17, as Campbell River Pride hosts its Fourth Annual Walk Away from Homophobia.

The event is endorsed by Mayor Charlie Cornfield, who has signed a proclamation designating May 17 as Walk Away from Homophobia Day in Campbell River. On the morning of Monday, May 17, Cornfield will raise the rainbow flag at city hall, to recognize the day to Walk Away from Homophobia, and to acknowledge that there are GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people) in every community and sport.

With the theme "Speaking about Silence: Homophobia in the Sports World," CR Pride, with the support of AIDS Vancouver Island, its partners and other organizations in Campbell River, is holding this walk to further the inclusion of homosexual persons in society, encourage understanding of sexual diversity and end discrimination based on sexual orientation.

After Stonewall Event Videos

On June 11, 2009, the Men's Wellness Program hosted a film screening and discussion to mark the 40 year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the beginning of the gay and lesbian liberation movement.

Christian Cano, blogger and AVI volunteer, created two short films about the event, which he posted on his blog and on YouTube. To visit Christian's blog follow this link: "Rainbow Life Victoria." Enjoy the videos below!
