The Project
The Mission
- To empower gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men to make informed choices about their own sexual health well being and reduce HIV and STD infections.
The Program
- The Men's Wellness Program is an initiative aimed at promoting Men's wellness and to reducing HIV and STD infections on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands among gay & bisexual men.
Info: The Men’s Wellness Program sends out notices of interest to the men on the MWP subscribers email list, maintains community information boards at venues around Vancouver Island, and publishes educational materials relevant to the health issues of the day concerning men who have sex with men. The MWP also produces Men's Briefs, the quarterly magazine of the Men's Wellness Program, distributing it both in print form and online.
Action: MWP sponsors daring, sexy and controversial community forums where we discuss the issues that matter to you.
Support: The Men’s Wellness Program is committed to offering a safe environment for men to talk about being gay or bi with other guys, and how that impacts on their sexual, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual health and well being. The Men’s Wellness Program facilitates Gay Men's Discussion Groups, Chat & Chews, Coffee Socials and Men’s Retreats in Victoria, Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Courtenay, Campbell River and Port Hardy throughout the year. The Gay Community Development Co-ordinator for the MWP is available for one-to-one discussion and support and also answers a Support Line at: 1-866-277-9055.
Outreach: The Men’s Wellness Program provides free access to condoms and lube at Prism Lounge (642 Johnson St.), and AIDS Vancouver Island (1601 Blanshard St.). The MWP also provides outreach to local cruising areas and dispenses condoms and lube to many other groups, events, schools and individuals on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
Funding: MWP is funded by Health Canada under the AIDS Community Action Program.
