Are you the new Men's Wellness Coordinator?

Jeremy

New Men's Wellness Coordinator

The position of the Men's Wellness Coordinator has been filled but not by this person. An official announcement will go out very soon.

You may

You may have clarified things, but I will look forward to the new person's own words; he/she whatever deserves our full support. Communication is the issue here, not gendertyping. Considering the lack of information put out by AVI's "communications" employee, and they are paying two consultants as well...the public never knows what goes on there.

New Men's Wellness Coordinator

Two comments on this page of our web site have been removed as they are viewed as being discriminatory.

An announcement of the new Men's Wellness Coordinator, who started this Monday, January 31, will be posted today.

CENSORSHIP!

While I may not have contributed to a friendly, nurturing environment, I hardly believe that my comment (and the one I responded to) was "discriminatory"...

There have been MANY MANY posts in these forums which have highly critical of AVI, or of individuals, and I've NEVER seen them removed.

Since these forums were set up supposedly where we could say "anything", without interference from AVI (that was the promise at the beginning!) I am astounded to find my post removed.

what gives?

Howdy?

Whoever Tyler was, he must regret asking people to "talk to me."

Jim, I thought your note--now gone from the list--was funny. But still, I can understand AIDS Vancouver's position. They were a personal attack on whoever it was who also personally riffed the new man-to-man staffer in Victoria. Hopefully the new staff person rides it out.

I've watched this list since moving here, and the guys on it don't seem very friendly. I know there's a men's group that meets, but so far I'm sticking with my doctor and the few (straight) people I know here.

Maybe it's the size of the town. I plan to volunteer, but I'm not ready. What do other people think? What belongs on this list anyway?

Is there a list--or a place--where men meet--aside from bars?

Get involved

Finally some refreshing dialogue, however, how do we follow a "forum" where comments have been removed?

By not introducing Captain Snowdon earlier AVI allowed ignorance (the Victoria gossip mill) to perculate. Once again AVI is reactive not proactive. If censorship is being used as damage control, all eyes need to be focused on the person at the top.

Members of the community must support Captain Snowdon who promises to be a dynamic new presence; get involved: more community, fewer "managers".

Terms and Conditions of Use

AIDS Vancouver Island, with reluctance, occasionally pulls inappropriate material from our site that it determines to be discriminatory or overly personal with respect to individuals.

AVI always leaves criticism up that is directed to the agency and its work for the purpose of fostering open dialogue and continually learning and improving the agency services.

When a person creates an account on this site you are given the opportunity to read the Terms and Conditions for the use of this site, which states our agency’s commitment to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy, unless harm is directed to a person or agency or when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.

People’s comments have clarified the need to be succinct about the policies for the use of this site. AVI is developing a policy for the use of this site that respects the rights of individuals. A posting, with details of this process, will go up within the next few weeks.

The primary reason for this site is to link people to this site for the purpose of exchanging or gathering information. With an average of 25,000 hits per month, this site is being well utilized. Having said that, this is AVI’s site. We need to ensure that the site is managed in a respectful way.

AVI appreciates your constructive criticism and positive input.

it was still censorship

I don't know - in the however many years this has been set up, I admit I haven't been on EVERY day, but I can't remember any time where posts have been removed with a notation that they've been removed for some kind of reason.

You may well have removed spam or commercially-based ads, without comment, but the FIRST time I ever saw any acknowledgement that posts had been removed was last week with mine and the other post which were deemed "discriminatory" (they were NOT).

I look forward to a clearer articulation of "policy"

Gay men
