TRANSGENDER HEALTH PROGRAM: COORDINATOR POSITION

The Transgender Health Program was launched by Vancouver Coastal Health in June 2003 to provide support, information, and advocacy for transgender people and loved ones in BC, and to coordinate training of health and social service providers.

Working within the context of a client-driven approach and the vision/values of Vancouver Coastal Health, the Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the development of the Transgender Health Program within the context of Recommendations for a Transgender Health Program (the Kopala report).

This includes: coordinating the development of education, peer support, advocacy, and research initiatives; coordinating stakeholder outreach and engagement (including community forums, the Advisory Group and Education Working Group, and the network of service providers affiliated with the program); coordinating development of external funding proposals;

supervising program staff; developing an evaluation framework for the program; representing the program in meetings with the Medical Services Plan and other government bodies; accounting for expenditures within a budget specified by Vancouver Coastal Health; and providing quarterly reports of service delivery activities and issues.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, health policy, or social planning, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* Experience with program management, preferably in the health or social service field.

* Familiarity with transgender health concerns, including gender transition; familiarity with the transgender health system in BC.

* Working knowledge of principles of client-driven service.

* Effective verbal and written communication skills and sound interpersonal skills.

* Effective team-building skills.

* Proven ability to work with diverse range of transgender community members (including but not limited to diversity of culture, ethnicity, class, disability, age, sexuality, and gender identity/expression), with volunteers, and with health and social service providers across disciplines.

* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to problem-solve, to take initiative, to anticipate potential problems/conflicts and take appropriate actions, to organize and prioritize work, to meet deadlines, and to use a cooperative approach to program delivery.

* Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Contract position: December 15, 2004 - December 31, 2005; 20 hours per week
