Gay Men's Discussion Group - November 17
The Gay Men's Discussion group held on November 17 went off very well. We had quite a few members in attendance.
The discussion group usually focuses on a topical subject of interest. The group is usually quite casual, informative and allows for a chance to be with other gay and bi guys.
Some of the things we discussed Nov 17 were:
Coffee night - beginning a coffee night for guys one night a week. We will be scouting out local coffee places to secure a good location. We will also need a core group of two or three to take this on. Once we start the coffee night we need to be sure we keep it going.
Movie Night - This was a popular idea. We will be setting this up once a month. Movies and some snacks will be provided by Men's Wellness program. It looks like we may start off doing this in a different members home each month. To be aware of where the event is, you will need to be on the elist for Men's Wellness or contact me.
Coming Out Classes - This idea was discussed at length. It is clear the act of Coming out needs to be addressed. Men's Wellness will begin planning this for launch in February or March. Initial thoughts see this being a series of weekly classes for six to eight weeks.
Ideally we would run this program in the spring and the fall.
Topics for the next forum ranged from Coming Out - "Yikes he is Gay, What Now?" and Crystal Meth.

Coffee night born espresSo-Gay
We did it. One of the ideas from the discussion group was to start a coffee night, a relaxed opprotunity to meet other guys, feel part of the community and find out what is happening in Victoria and area.
Every Wednesday night espresSo-Gay will be there for you from 7 to 9pm at Rosie's Diner located at 235 Cook Street. Rosie's Diner is gay friendly and the food is pretty good too if you want to grab something to eat along with your espresSo-Gay!
These evenings are not structured nor are the meant to be. They provide people with a sense of belonging and another opportunity to connect with other Gay and Bi men in a safe and supportive environment.
The best part is that you don't have to drink coffee, you can choose to have your dinner, a snack or try out the hot chocolate or tea or juice.
Friendships are formed, we get to know each other without having to cruise. I met the love of my life at a similar kind of coffee night in Kelowna. Now don't get your hopes up, no promises you will. What we do get to do is to make new friends and find support if we need it.
The other plus is visitors coming to Victoria will know they can come out and find the gay men! That would be you because you came on down to be with the guys! That makes you and me espresSo-Gay!
