Core Assumptions

This strategic plan makes several core assumptions about the nature of the
services provided at AIDS Vancouver Island. These assumptions include:

  • Incorporating Hepatitis C and other co-infections in service planning, design
    and delivery
  • Recognizing the impact of active addiction and mental illness in clients’
    lives
  • Maintaining a balance between prevention and treatment, care and support
    services
  • Acknowledging the diverse service needs of the general population, vulnerable
groups and people living with HIV and/or Hepatitis C and other co-infections
  • Optimizing universal prevention efforts in the general population
  • Targeting enhanced prevention and treatment, care and support efforts to
    vulnerable population groups
  • Using the best available knowledge and evidence to rationalize decisions
    and resource allocation
