AVI Education Department

As a new arrival in Victoria I am shocked at the deficient quality of information on AVIs website--coming from a continent where millions of women have been infected with HIV through heterosexual contact.

What is the purpose of your organization? What sort of people are in charge? I had heard that there is a phenomenal rate of staff turnover there, which speaks mismanagement.

re: AVI Education Department

Thank you for your comment and questions.

The AIDS Vancouver Island website was created and designed with agency information and referral as the purpose. To that end, the majority of information on it outlines our services, provides information about who is involved in the agency, and where one can find related information/services. For instance, the menu on the left hand side of the website has links to many areas of the site that can answer questions about the purpose of our agency, who works here, etc.

We do not have an "Facts about HIV/AIDS" page on our website, partly because our links page will refer visitors to a huge variety of websites that have pre-existing - and extensive - fact/information sections. We do, however, invite those with questions about HIV/AIDS and related issues to either phone our Infoline number (Victoria and area 384-2366, or toll-free 1-800-665-2437) or email us at info@avi.org.

Again, many thanks for taking the time to post your input. If you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at the number and email above.

Sincerely,
Heidi Exner
Manager, Health Promotion and Community Development
(aka. Education)
